A Breath of Fresh Art

March 30, 2009

I received an email from my cousin, Ashley (in Nebraska), today that I wanted to share with all of you. And please keep praying for Stellan and his family. Click the “MckMiracle” link on the sidebar to stay up to date.

A friend of mine who works in area theatre is in need of a double lung transplant.  She has suffered from cystic fibrosis since she was young and this procedure would save her life. Many of the area theatres have done fundraisers and on April 19th, UNO [University of Nebraska, Omaha] is sponsoring the biggest one yet.  I thought I’d send out the information to you guys–even if you can’t attend, please consider donating even $5 to her cause.  It would mean a lot.  And if you know other people with big hearts and big (or tiny) checkbooks, please send it on to them as well.

Here is where you can find out information about the event: http://abreathoffreshart.com/

Thank you for passing this on in support of your cousin’s friend Lara… It’s wonderful that UNO is sponsoring this on Lara’s behalf — and it’s wonderful that you’re helping spread the word… I know how expensive lung transplant, and all of the associated costs for the rest of your life are!!!

I also know what it’s like struggling for breath with cystic fibrosis. And I hope, like me, that Lara soon knows what it’s like to breathe with beautiful, “real” lungs… Next week I’ll have had my beautiful, new lungs for nine years and it still blows my mind every freakin’ day… And I think about the girl who saved my life every single day — I can see her smile when I close my eyes… After struggling so long with lousy lungs — Lara deserves the same…

    Thank you for helping her…

    Love,

    Steve
