Skipping September

October 2, 2008

The last time I engaged in the real world, it was August. And today it’s October 2. I feel like I missed the entire month of September. Of course, I didn’t miss it. I lived  it, the best September ever. Baby girl. Proud papa. Happy mama. Yep. Best September ever.

Here are some random happenings and thoughts never before reported thanks to all that “living” I was doing.

  • I dropped a knife on the floor which nicked my foot. As earlier reported, feet can really bleed. (I’m totally fine.)
  •  Hooray! Shana has a blog!
  • A few days ago a bug crawled on my hand at 1:00 in the morning whilst I fed Ainsley in the living room. Cree-py.
  • I may have killed said bug at 1:00 in the morning today whilst I fed Ainsley in the living room. Yipp-ee.
  • Holy moly. Where did summer go? Our house is chilly, as evidenced by the butter on the counter, once soft and easy to spread, now cold and not at all spreadable.
  • I dropped a glass on the floor the other day. Shattered into a billion pieces (the glass, not me). Ugh.
  • It would appear that I am as klutzy as ever. I should not be trusted with sharp objects or objects which when broken can be sharp.
  • I rearranged a few pieces of furniture because I just couldn’t take it anymore. I am a bit of a nut when it comes to furniture arrangement — I need to make adjustments every few months or I go crazy looking at things at the same angle. This is part of the reason I love decorating for Christmas — everything needs to have a new place to make room for the tree!
  • Now that it’s October, we are officially hurtling toward “the most wonderful time of the year” (I must agree with Mr. Andy Williams — it is wonderful!). I am fearful to hit the mall… am I going to be reminded at every turn that I need to start Christmas shopping?
  • I really need to go shopping for some new clothes. But where do I begin? Does anyone out there have recommendations for affordable, high-quality, and grown-up clothes? I need new casual and work pieces. help.
  • I made hummus today. It was really easy and really tasty. And cheap. Garbanzo beans (aka chick peas). Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Salt. Garlic powder. Blender. Try it! Add some kick with cayenne pepper, oregano, or your favorite seasoning. Then tell me about it. I (heart) hummus.
  • I really don’t want to think about voting in 32 days.
  • I have not replied to about 90% of the emails in my inbox.
  • The clock on our wall stopped. Sorta. It has been 8:45 for almost a week, but the pendulum is still swinging. Weird.
  • I love cloth diapering. Maybe ignorance is bliss; I know no other way of full-time diapering. Besides which, the last time I used a disposable on Ainsley overnight, I made a very unpleasant discovery in the morning. Her little patooty had wiggled out of the diaper and there was a stinky, wet mess all up her back, her clothes, and her blankets. Oops.

To reward all of you who read all of that (or smartly skipped it altogether), here’s a picture of Ainsley in the laundry basket. Don’t worry — the clothes are clean.
