A new week

April 14, 2008

Welcome to Monday!

We had a nice weekend. On Saturday, we went on a field trip with a few kids from Scott’s Bethel Buddies program (a weekly after-school mentoring program). We went to bookstore in Minneapolis called Wild Rumpus. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend a visit! It’s a children’s bookstore filled with live animals — tail-less cats (I suppose to prevent tail-pulling), caged ferrets, birds, and a rat dungeon, and a friendly brown hen. Stop by Sebastian Joe’s for ice cream on your way out. It’s an easy outing for everyone!

On Saturday night, we enjoyed our third Children’s Shelter of Cebu annual banquet. It was a record-setting year with more than 870 guests registered and over $97,000 raised! If you want to know more about CSC, check it out at the links on the right. We got connected to the ministry through my co-workers and have loved celebrating at the banquet for three years. It was pretty amazing to think back… For our first banquet we were not yet engaged. By our second banquet, we were married. By our third, we have bought a house and are expecting our first child. I enjoy measuring life’s changes by activities like this banquet. It is much more tangible and memorable to me than dates.

Tonight and tomorrow night, Scott is playing basketball with brother-in-law Ben. Grace and I are going to a local textile store that is going out of business to see if we can get any good deals. This epitomizes the differences between Scott and me. And yet I’ll (mostly) enjoy hearing all about his games and he’ll work hard at being interested in my fabric findings. Then we’ll watch “Friends” reruns and talk about baby names. These are interests we quite easily have in common.

    Scott and Amanda,
Mary, Paul and I have been and will continue to pray for you. What a special time in your lives. Gizmo will be here soon and we look forward to watching him/her grow up. Maybe we will be watching Gizmo play basketball, and baseball in the future. What a blessing! May our Lord continue to richly bless you,
    Mary & Kevin

    Amanda & Scott,

It is so important for you to be interested (or at least show interest) in each other’s activities. Start it now and continue on and it will keep you united in a special way. You are both special to me. I love you both.

    Mommo
