Where are we?

Before you start thinking, “Hey, is the weather really nice up there? Are the Ginn’s out and about with the stroller, applying sunblock, and shedding jackets along the way? Is that why they’re not blogging?”

Before you start wondering, “Hey, are the Ginn’s so well rested and relaxed that they don’t have time to blog?”

Before you start asking yourself, “Hey, did Ainsley become so adorable that the Ginn’s actually broke their camera by taking so many photos of her? Yes, that must be why they haven’t posted new photos in over a week.”

Before you get ahead of yourself, let me correct the above statements, thus explaining our absence:

1. It’s 28 degrees here right now. For some reason, the forecast still says it’s supposed to be 42 degrees for a high today. It’s 3:15 in the afternoon; if it’s still only 28 are we really going to reach 42? It snowed yesterday; I think they called it a “wintry mix”. It’s been cloudy, windy, cold, and generally miserable outside all week. So NO, we have not been out and about with the stroller and sunblock. We’ve been indoors with socks and sweaters.

2. “Well rested” and “relaxed” are not on our radar right now. Ainsley has been up 4-6 times a night since Sunday night. In bed at 8:00 p.m., up at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30 a.m., sometimes 2:30, 4:30, sometimes 6:30, and up for the day at 8:00 a.m. In addition, today was the first day she’s napped for more than 50 minutes at a time all week. Sleep deprived and stressed are better terms to describe our household this week.

3. Thankfully, Ainsley’s out-of-control cuteness has not busted our camera — yet. We have a gazillion photos to post, but due to the two earlier explanations, I have avoided the blog, my email, and my phone pretty much all week. And you know what? It has been really good. I have sat on the floor with our almost-ready-to-crawl Ainsley, carried her around during her “my mouth hurts — let’s cuddle” moments, and have even read a few extra chapters from Wicked during her brief naps.

Being Scott’s wife and Ainsley’s mom is really the best gig around, and I needed all my energy to be present to these fleeting moments this week. As Ainsley sits in my lap digging in emptying the desk drawer (how in the world does she know how to open that?), I am so content to be in this moment.

I’ll come back to all of you once I get more than 4 hours of sleep at a time. Until then, we’re here. Just quietly so.

I’m so proud of you, friend. I knew you would be great at this!

I am ordering up an extra big dose of sunshine to send your way. We are expecting hail and tornados today so it might be delayed. :(

Happy 7 month birthday, Ainsley! I just love how inquisitive Ainsley is and she is just wanting to know everything about everything and never wants to miss a thing. Amanda, you are a great mom, and Ainsley knows it! I only hope we can be as good at being grandparents to her. Love you all!
